Expectations Letter Study Hall Aug. -Oct 2015 Mrs. Seymour
Welcome! This is a QUIET--almost silent—Study Hall. It is your opportunity to get work done! Most people will remain in the classroom each period. However, some students may be excused to work in the LMC, if requested. Additionally, students may be excused to work with individual teachers if they are available.
Behavior
Students will:
1. Obey school rules
2. Be on time
3. Bring something to work on or read, and all materials needed for that work. Don’t expect to go to your locker. This is very important. Every day, students must bring something to work on that will benefit their learning and grades.
4. Avoid silliness or violence. Violence includes swearing, unwanted physical contact, mean jokes, put-downs, cheating.
Additional Rules:
1. Cell phones may not be used for texting, phone calls or other social reasons. If you have one, it should be put away, unless you can demonstrate that you are using it for your school work.
2. Food is ok, as long as it doesn’t make a mess or bother others. Plan ahead, and bring your breakfast/snacks to class. You will not be excused to go buy food. Also, do not be late because you were buying food.
3. I-pods (and such) are ok – one person per ipod—unless they become a problem. You must be doing work, not just listening to music.
4. Playing games on your hand-held electronic device or computer is not allowed.
5. If you are playing games, using a cell phone without permission, or misusing an IPod, I will: confiscate your device for the class (1st time), confiscate for the day (2nd time) confiscate for the day and e-mail your parents/guardians about the problem (3rd time), and confiscate and ask your parent/guardian to come in to retrieve it (4th time?!).
6. Sleeping or resting is allowed occasionally, if it seems it will help you be successful in your classes that day.
7. Study Hall is not a social period. Students will not be allowed to sit and hang-out.
8. Copying of other students’ work is not allowed! Ever! Anywhere!
9. Working in groups will be allowed, if real collaborative work is taking place. See #’s 7 and 8. Please talk very quietly.
Students will be rewarded for following the above rules in many ways, including occasional food treats. The biggest reward, however, will be a relaxed classroom where we will be able to get work done, and where time won’t be wasted on discipline problems!
Students with chronic behavior problems will have a behavior plan with me. Possible interventions include but are not limited to: detention, a plan worked out with parents/guardians, and/or office referrals.
Grades
Students will receive a Pass or Fail for Study Hall, based on attendance. If a student misses more than 3 periods unexcused he or she will receive an F for study hall—a .25 credit. Students may make up absences with a detention, see Mr. Brekke.
Communication: the fastest way to reach me is by e-mail. My e-mail address is: mseymour@jeffco.k12.co.us. I will make every effort to respond to messages as quickly as possible. My school voice mail number is 303-982-3019.
I look forward to a great semester!
